Overview

If you have different groups of customers, such as wholesalers vs retail customers, and want a way to segment their ability to utilize your rewards program, then tags are a great way to do this.

We recommend for all customers to have the ability to earn points & rewards, but if you need to exclude a particular customer group, this article explains how to do that.

Note:  Customer Segmentation (tags) begins on our Growth Plan.

Adding Tags to a Customer

The 1st step in excluding customers from your rewards program is to add a Tag to a particular customer. This tag can be referenced in other screens so Lootly knows which customer to exclude. To get started, follow the steps below:

  • Click on Customers , within the left side menu.

  • Find a particular customer and click into their profile.

  • Scroll down to the bottom right of their profile, where it says "Customer Tags"

To add a new tag, begin typing in the text field. For example, if this customer is a wholesaler, I can enter in a tag called "wholesaler".

If you have a lot of customers you need to tag with the same tag, you can use our Adjust Tags tool to tag customers in bulk.

Exclude a Customer from earning Points

To exclude a particular customer from an earning action, follow the steps below:

  • Click on Points > Earning

  • Select the Earning Action and click into the edit screen

  • Scroll down to the "Earning Restrictions" area and under "Customer Restrictions" click the Add button

  • Select "Customer tags" from the 1st drop down

  • For the middle drop down add "has none of" , which means if a customer does not have this tag, then they can earn points.

  • Next enter in your previously created tag, example "wholesaler" within the last text field on the right.

  • Click Save and you're all set.

This means that if this particular customer attempts to complete this earning action, they will not receive points.

Exclude a Customer from redeeming points on a particular reward

Similar to the above instructions, you can also do the same thing for rewards.

  • Click on Points > Spending

  • Select the Spending Reward and click into the edit screen

  • Scroll down to the "Earning Restrictions" area and under "Customer Restrictions" click the Add button

  • Select "Customer tags" from the 1st drop down

  • For the middle drop down add "has none of" , which means if a customer does not have this tag, then they can earn points.

  • Next enter in your previously created tag, example "wholesaler" within the last text field on the right.

  • Click Save and you're all set.

Exclude a Customer from a VIP Tier

Similar to the above instructions, you can also limit which customers are eligible to gain access to a VIP Program. For example, you may only want retail customers eligible to receive these bonuses, and not wholesale customers.

  • Click on VIP > Tiers

  • Select the Tier and click Edit

  • Scroll down to the bottom where you see "VIP Tier Restrictions"

  • Select "Customer tags" from the 1st drop down

  • For the middle drop down add "has none of" , which means if a customer does not have this tag, then they can earn points.

  • Next enter in your previously created tag, example "wholesaler" within the last text field on the right.

  • Click Save and you're all set.
